AllMusic Review by

Although popular blues is generally thought of these days as a predominantly guitar-dominated form, the piano actually played just as big a part in the development of the blues as a commercial music in the 20th century. This set features some of the starts of the 88s from that era, including Roosevelt Sykes ("44 Blues"), Professor Longhair ("Boogie Woogie"), Memphis Slim ("Pigalle Love"), Otis Spann ("Must Have Been the Devil"), and Little Brother Montgomery ("Vicksburg Blues"), among others.
