AllMusic Review by

A terrific overview of this cross-genre composer's music that lies somewhere between new music tone poems and pop styles. Contains: "Nannies and Chauffeurs," a three-part political suite "Nightmare in Tobaccoland," two pieces influenced by Gordon's study of Korean music ("Chejudo" and "Sorak San), a rock commentary "Gnarly Youth," a lovely ballad "My Bed" from Gordon's recent opera The Strange Life of Ivan Osokin, "The Khazars," "Ivan's Rag," and a live performance recording of "Raw Chihuahua" featuring the quartet playing at breakneck speed for a wildly enthusiastic audience. With P. Gordon on saxes and Farfisa organ, Jeffrey Berman on percussion, Paul Nowinski on bass, and "Blue" Gene Tyranny on piano.
