AllMusic Review by

Cornetist Peter Ecklund's debut as a leader is a gem. On five superior songs (including Jabbo Smith's "Jazz Battle" and "I Double Dare You"), he is showcased in a quartet with clarinetist Joe Muranyi, banjoist Eddie Davis, and Barbara Dreiwitz on tuba. Four other tunes have Ecklund teaming up with clarinetist Ken Peplowski, bassist Bill Conway, and acoustic guitarist Marty Grosz (who sings "The Lady's in Love With You" and "If I Had a Talking Picture of You" with his usual wit). The remaining five numbers feature Ecklund, Muranyi, and Grosz along with trombonist Dan Barrett, bass saxophonist Vince Giordano, and guitarist Frank Vignola. Overall, this is particularly for fans who think that Louis Armstrong invented scat singing.
