The already great number of compilations of Caetano Veloso's extensive discography is still growing. Perfil brings together 18 magnificent tracks, mainly from the '80s and later. The choice of tracks is a bit different from that of the standard Veloso compilation, and includes lesser-known gems such as "Luz do Sol," "Outras Palavras," and "Rapte-Me Camaleoa." Of course, there are also often-played classics such as "Odara," with its soft semi-acoustic disco groove; the delicate choro "Sampa" (an elegantly poetic presentation of impressions from the megacity of São Paulo); and the beautiful love song "Você é Linda," from 1983. All three of these tracks are very common features on Caetano Veloso compilations. "Você Não Me Ensinou a Te Esquecer," taken from the soundtrack of the 2003 movie Lisbela e o Prisioneiro, is one of the more recent recordings here and is an excellent example of Veloso's abilities as an interpreter of other people's compositions, as are the versions of "Sozinho" (by Peninha) and "Samba de Verão" (by Marcos Valle). Perfil offers a good introduction to the musical output of Caetano Veloso, a Brazilian national treasure.
