Not the old school R&B/Soul group from England, but a jazz aggregation steeped in tradition. They used horns, and a big band sound mixed low on some tunes, and out front on others for sweetening. Their sound is hard to pinpoint as they explore many different styles, "Is It Me," harkens back to the 40's/50's torch song sans vocals; while "Spark" is a straight ahead horn driven traditional jazz sound. The flowing "Minor Mambo" is reminiscent of early George Benson, the lead guitarists' delivery is elegant and fluid. A pleasing compilation with enough diversity to avoid stagnation.
