Curtis Mayfield wore a lot of hats during his impressive career, excelling as a singer, songwriter, arranger, producer, and performer as well as providing a steady and sane voice of social commentary in times that were often confusing and divisive. This 11-song tribute set brings together several diverse musicians providing their take on various Mayfield songs, including David and Jonathan Sanborn's version of the timeless and elegant "People Get Ready," Huey Lewis' fun restructuring of "It's Alright," and Bunny Wailer's reggae walk through of "I Gotta Keep on Moving." Nothing here replaces the original versions by Mayfield and the Impressions, of course, but it's still a pleasant and enjoyable listen.
