Peace On Earth is the debut CD release of the St. Charles Borromeo Choir. Conducted by the renowned educator and music director emeritus of the Los Angeles Master Chorale Paul Salamunovich, the 68-member, all-volunteer choir is the only American choir ever invited to sing for Pope John Paul II at the Mass for the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul at St. Peter's in Rome with the Pope presiding. Peace on Earth features 21 splendid renditions of holiday carols, poetry, hymns, and traditional music from around the world, including the majestic "Hark the Herald Angels Sing!" written by Felix Mendelssohn. The charming Austrian carol "Still, Still, Still" and "The Lamb," which is based on text from one of William Blake's Songs of Innocence, is sung so delicately that it will bring tears of joy to your eyes. The colorful soprano, alto, tenor, and bass voices depict the miraculous events associated with Christmas, and the music is delivered in a variety of textures that allow the picturesque poetry to unite the listener with the choir and their stories. The peaceful, joyous selections included on this recording are pieces the St. Charles Borromeo Choir have sung over the years, both for Christmas masses and in concert, and represent the treasures of the European carol tradition and are some of the loveliest and most beautiful that you, the listener, will experience.
