Although not a major name as of this writing, Bobby Ramirez is a very talented flutist and tenor saxophonist. His well-rounded CD includes both stirring Afro-Cuban jazz and straight-ahead playing, featuring catchy originals alternating with Bill Evans' "Waltz for Debby" and "Besame Mucho." In addition to Ramirez (who is particularly strong on flute), other key soloists include violinist Federico Ruiz (who deserves to be much better known), pianist Mike Orta, and a tight percussion section. There is not a slow moment on this highly enjoyable set.
