During the years covered by this rare 10" LP, the Page Cavanaugh Trio was one of the more popular groups in jazz. Consisting of Cavanaugh on piano and lead vocal, guitarist Al Viola, and bassist Lloyd Pratt, the trio appeared in a few movies with Doris Day, had some minor hits, and was a major attraction in the Los Angeles area. Surprisingly its records have rarely ever been reissued. The eight songs on this LP do a fine job of summing up the group's legacy, including "All of Me," "The Three Bears," "Back in Your Own Back Yard," and "Walkin' My Baby Back Home." Several of the tunes have catchy group vocals, and the swing-based solos of Cavanaugh and Viola are consistently impressive yet accessible. This group is long overdue for a definitive retrospective CD.
