Overdose Simulation is an arresting release of minimalist power noise. Concocted by the minds behind such projects as Dive, Klinik (Dirk Ivens), and Hypnoskull (Patrick Stevens), Overdose Simulation thwarts the traditional power noise approach of simply adding more noise in the quest for creating new sounds. Each track on Overdose Simulation is carefully constructed around a few simple sound elements, arranged in a fine balance. This does not mean that the raw force is not there, however. The sounds the duo have arranged are harsh, while the percussion aggressively structures the soundscape. Tracks vary in texture, from the pounding of "Bite Dog Bite" to the softer arrangements such as "Sucked," and are at times reminiscent of other noise artists such as Imminent Starvation or Stevens' own Hypnoskull. While the tracks vary in texture, their construction does not so much, which may not appeal to listeners looking for more variety. This is not a flaw in the release, however, and Overdose Simulation provides a different take on power noise, completing any collection.
