AllMusic Review by

This first effort by Rick Shea, available only on cassette, establishes him firmly in the California country tradition. A follower of Merle Haggard, Shea's work here reflects that preference. Outstanding even in 1989, Shea makes a stunning debut and his Bonnie Owens-Merle Haggard-esque duet with Patty Booker on "A House Divided," speaks volumes about the potency of the duet as an art form. Also good is Shea's "Against My Better Judgement," "Guns That Blaze Like Thunder" and the Shea-Gary Brandlin tune, "Every Rose."
