AllMusic Review by

A great release, one of the best from George Russell's early phase. It combined material recorded from 1960 to 1962, and included Eric Dolphy on alto sax and bass clarinet, Dave Baker and Garnett Brown on trombones, trumpeters Don Ellis and Alan Kiger, bassists Steve Swallow and Chuck Israels, and drummers Pete La Roca and Joe Hunt, with vocalist Sheila Jordan. The songs are unpredictable, the arrangements excellent, and the album includes some pivotal Russell compositions in "Ezz-thetic" and "Stratusphunk."
