AllMusic Review by

Hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Rationals were one of the most exciting American rock bands of the mid-'60s, playing an energetic fusion of garage rock and blue-eyed soul, fueled by the passionate vocals of Scott Morgan. While the band never gained the nationwide success they deserved, they were stars in Michigan, and Out on the Floor is a collection assembled from recordings made in 1967 and 1968, meant to re-create a planned album of R&B-oriented material the group was never able to complete. Out on the Floor includes several of the Rationals' signature tunes, including "I Need You," "Temptation's 'Bout to Get Me," "Leaving Here," "I Gotta Go Now (Out on the Floor)," and many more, testifying to the strength and influence of a group that was several steps ahead of their garage rock peers of the day.
