"O.U. (Gone, Gone)" was Pulp's first single for Gift and demonstrated how rapidly the band was improving. Like "Countdown," it had a solid dance underpinning, but with a stronger melody and a more memorable hook. The B-side, "Space," was a little psychedelic, with a loose, free-form song structure that tied together at the end. While it wasn't quite as good as "O.U.," it would have made for a better A-side than nearly any of their Fire singles.
