AllMusic Review by

Another year, another pointless Tavares compilation. 1995's Original Hits comes from the Netherlands' Disky label, and it's cheap and ill-conceived -- even by the budget label's standards. Many of the hits that are found on just about every other anthology of the group's work -- "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel," "More Than a Woman," "She's Gone," "The Lover I Never I Had" -- are here, but despite fitting in a total of 17 cuts, it neglects a whole bushel of significant chart hits. Debut single "Check It Out" is missing, as are the likes of "Remember What I Told You to Forget," "Whodunit," and "Never Had a Love Like This Before." This disc only helped prove why Tavares was in need of a more extensive double-disc treatment. Capitol thankfully filled that void with 2004's Anthology.
