The main question here is what they mean by "original," since this performance is based on the usual version of Vivaldi's famous set of concertos. What is different is that this is not Vivaldi's original, but an arrangement, though not one that departs much from what one would normally hear. Toying with these pieces is commonplace in modern baroque practice, since it is believed Vivaldi expected his soloists to embellish their lines. Nigel Kennedy's popular recording took quite a few liberties; Vanessa-Mae is perhaps a little more ostentatious than most when it comes to ornamentation, and the improvising extends to the ensemble at large, but it's still pretty much Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons' played by a talented extrovert with a somewhat romantic attitude. Much the same could be said of the ensemble arrangement of Tartini's 'Devil's Trill' Sonata, but the dance-beat arrangement of material from that work is not to be missed, perhaps the highlight of the disc.
