AllMusic Review by

With the rise of Jamaican sound-systems in the early ‘70s, the art of toasting (rapping) over instrumental versions of popular hits, found favor in dancehalls across the island. ORIGINAL FOUNDATION DEEJAYS is a collection of some of the earliest innovators of the form: Dennis Alcapone, I Roy, Dillinger, and Prince Jazzbo. Consisting of gruff, at times humorous, commentary over stark instrumental dubs, their unique conversational style would have a considerable influence on what was to later become hip-hop music.
