AllMusic Review by

Released roughly the same time as Reptile Palace Orchestra's 1997 Hwy X, Headpump includes two members from that eclectic worldbeat outfit, percussionist Siggi Baldursson and guitarist/violinist Biff Blumfumgagnge. With their dense, funky rock, tight rhythms, and creepy imagery, Headpump resembles the early-'80s re-formed King Crimson, particularly the rhythm section of Bill Bruford and Tony Levin. Baldursson and bassist Markopolis are exceptional players whose symbiotic relationship is obvious. But as biting as Robert Fripp and company could be both sonically and lyrically, this band's sardonic streak rises head and shoulders above that of their presumed mentors.
