Huling is a multi-instrumentalist who builds his music around acoustic and electronic piano and synthesizer. Open Spaces offers a mixed bag of styles, from the lively jazz-tinged opener, through neo-Baroque stylings, the Satie-influenced title track, and synthesized impressionism. Images of the ocean abound as pan flute, bass, bells, and strings add color to his strangely muted piano. This tape has an engaging home-grown feel to it, and is being used by the famous Montery Bay Aquarium as a soundtrack to one of its current displays.
