For those looking for "Me and Mrs. Jones," the 1972 number one hit by soul singer Billy Paul, this compilation will disappoint. The version included on Only the Strong Survive: The Best of Billy Paul was recorded live, and although it is a decent rendition, it lacks the lush Philadelphia International production of Leon Huff and Kenneth Gamble that helped make the original so special. The remaining 14 tracks are singles and album cuts from the '70s, including cover versions of Paul McCartney's "Let 'Em In," the Doobie Brothers' "Takin' It to the Streets," and David Soul's "Don't Give Up on Us." Inexplicably, Billy Paul's only other Top 20 chart entry, "Thanks for Saving My Life," has been excluded.
