Ortiz was a '70s Young Turk, a trumpeter who worked equally well in tipico and jazz-oriented vein. Having improved many other people's albums, he cut this one in 1979, before vanishing into the Black Hole caused by the early '80s salsa recession. It was stylistically a hugely varied as well as talented album, and it's good to see it back.
