Although Hydeus Kiatta in recent times often performs in jazz clubs in the Los Angeles area, this is a pop-oriented set. Her flexible voice is excellent and attractive but the settings are pretty commercial and most of her improvising takes place over closing vamps. All of the songs were written or co-composed by Kiatta and although sincere, it is doubtful that any will catch on as standards. The backup band, which is mostly comprised of lesser-known players, is functional with violinist Patti Weiss getting in a couple good licks. But overall this effort is a pleasant melodic easy listening set of light R&B with no real chances taken.
