This valuable LP (which has not yet been reissued on CD) has live performances by Claude Thornhill's finest orchestra, the band he led during 1946-47. With vocals by Fran Warren and Buddy Hughes and charts contributed by Gil Evans, Bill Borden (who produced the album), Charlie Naylor and Thornhill, the dozen selections give one a good picture of how the Thornhill Orchestra often sounded. This version of "La Paloma" is nearly six minutes long while the other selections are much more concise. Highlights include "La Paloma," "Arab Dance," "I Get the Blues When It Rains," "Sorta Kinda" and "Early Autumn."
