This is a vastly underrated recording, which introduced guitarist Dean Brown and bassist Tim Landers. It is immediately apparent, thanks to the metal-esque chords of Brown that Billy Cobham's disco period was over. He pushes his companions to dizzying heights throughout this session, particularly on the powerful closer "Observations and Reflections." Cobham sounds re-invigorated and his intensity is especially apparent during his solo on "M.S.R.." "Chiquita Linda" is a catchy song that is reminiscent of his earlier compositions on Spectrum ("Red Baron"). This is a must-have recording for Cobham fans or for those who believed that great fusion died in the '70s. Also not to be missed is this group's live performance on Smokin'.
