The energetic alternative pop of Nothing Painted Blue got its first national attention thanks to this three-song EP, which showcases the band's tightness, wit, and energy. "Swivelchair" is both best and oddest -- it's a love song to someone with a desk job, and singer Franklin Bruno fantasizes about playing with her office supplies. The frantic surf pop instrumental "El Nino" is also worth a listen. The record is smart, funny, and alas, over too soon.
