AllMusic Review by

The powerful and distinctive sounds of North Mississippi hill country blues have been around for a long time, but got a larger audience in the mid-'90s with the recordings of R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Otha Turner, and others on Fat Possum Records, and even more fans through the releases of next-generation bands like the North Mississippi Allstars, who worked the modal arrangements of the region’s blues into a rock trio format. The elder statesmen of the music are mostly gone now, but a music festival has sprung up to honor them, the North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic, and thankfully 2010’s festival was recorded and released on two separate discs by Devil Down Records -- this set is the second of those festival samplers, and includes performances by Kenny Brown (whose slide guitar playing was a big part of Burnside and Kimbrough's modal sound), veteran area bluesmen Robert Belfour and T-Model Ford, former Squirrel Nut Zippers leader Jimbo Mathus, and others.
