The solo project of Underoath drummer and vocalist Aaron Gillespie, the Almost is both softer and more melodic than the leader’s metalcore main outfit. When Gillespie debuted the Almost on 2007’s SOUTHERN WEATHER, he showed a gift for emo-leaning songwriting, one that shines just as brightly on his 2008 EP, NO GIFT TO BRING. Boasting four Gillespie originals and a surprisingly straightforward cover of the traditional carol “Little Drummer Boy,” NO GIFT TO BRING acknowledges Gillespie’s Christian faith while further defining his personal emo and post-hardcore singer-songwriter aesthetic.
