Subtitled 'classics from the shebeens of South Africa, ' this compilation brings together 14 tracks that were big hits in the last days of apartheid and the early times of the new, restructured South Africa. All of the music is very uplifting in spirit, but of particular note are "Trouble in the Night Vigil" by Chico, "I'm in Love with a Rastaman" by Mahlathini & the Mahotella Queens, "Khoma, Khoma" by Splash, "Kangivumanga" by Ladysmith Black Mambazo, "Take It to Jah" by Lucky Dube, "Shebeleza" by Joe Mafela and "Don't Ask Why" by Stimela. The shebeens (drinking clubs) provided the forum and this music provided the soundtrack of the times it so clearly mirrors on this wonderful collection.
