Nightline/Abstract Emotions Review

by Andy Kellman

The 1983 and 1986 studio albums from Randy Crawford are combined on this two-disc set, part of Edsel's thorough reissue program for the singer's first ten Warner Bros. releases. With improved sound and a substantial booklet with recording information and liner notes, it offers a significant upgrade from the original CD editions of the albums. A handful of bonus tracks, including two additional versions of "Nightline," four versions of the Reggie Lucas-written "Desire," and an extended mix of "Gettin' Away with Murder," come from contemporaneous 12" releases -- a definite benefit for those who passed on the no-extras digital downloads of the albums when they were made available in 2011.
