Night Review

by Doug Stone

Night brings standard late-'70s hard rock, but the late '70s set a high standard. Sizzling opener "Hot Summer Nights" soups up a Walter Egan single (retaining a clever nod to his first LP) and, because of Stevie Lange's feminine bellows, this Top 20 smash pounds like prime Heart. The unmistakable voice of Manfred Mann's Earth Band's main man Chris Thompson also chimes in, but nothing else on this inaugural address, even (or perhaps especially) a run through the ol' R&B chestnut "Ain't That Peculiar," can touch the coolness of that hot hit.
