By the mid-'50s pianist Lennie Tristano was pretty much a recluse, enthusiastically teaching his approach to jazz but rarely performing in public. This album has nine of his improvisations that were performed in his studio with the assistance of bassist Peter Ind and drummer Tom Weyburn. Tristano was one of the most talented jazz pianists in history, so practically every recording of his is worth savoring, especially considering that there are relatively few. These spontaneous solos (over common chord patterns) are no exception.
