They started out as a pure house outfit, and that's why it's surprising to find Coco Steel & Lovebomb releasing an ambient album, especially in 1997 when beats reigned supreme. Though some of New World uses abstract trip-hop as a base, most of it relies on ambience of the Orb type, exemplified by the album's theme of a trip around the world. It's not that it doesn't work, it just appears that Coco Steel & Lovebomb made a cash-in album years after the fact.
