AllMusic Review by

New romantics are indeed back, and so are several other artists who had nothing to do with the movement. Apart from a few tracks -- Visage's "Fade to Grey," Ultravox's "Dancing With Tears in My Eyes," Talk Talk's "It's My Life" -- New Romantics Are Back can only be considered an everyday compilation of '80s English pop and rock. There's no reason why Billy Idol, Johnny Hates Jazz, Cutting Crew, Dream Academy, Scritti Politti, Wham!, or Naked Eyes should appear on a disc with this title. Even the picks for Duran Duran ("Wild Boys"), the Human League ("Human"), and a few others fall well outside the right time frame. Even if this disc had a more appropriate title, it wouldn't be easy to recommend. It's careless.
