AllMusic Review by

This interesting LP has the first jazz records ever made in New Orleans. Okeh Records conducted two field trips (one during March 15-16, 1924 and the other during Jan. 22-23, 1925) and the results were excellent recordings by Johnny De Droit, two blues from singer Lola Bolden, disappointingly primitive performances by Fate Marable (his band's only two recordings), a pair of vaudevillian numbers from Billy & Mary Mack, one song apiece from Russ Papalia and The New Orleans Rhythm Kings and three fine numbers by Oscar Celestin's Original Tuxedo Jazz Orchestra. This worthy English import contains some music not yet reissued on CD.
