Collin Raye was one of the biggest New Country stars of the 1990s, but even after his long train of Top 10 hits stopped coming, he never stopped evolving. With his commercial peak in the rear-view, Raye makes some of the classiest, most organic-sounding music of his career on NEVER GOING BACK. His luminous tenor is still as striking as ever, but there are no overt stabs at commercialism here. That's certainly not to say this isn't accessible stuff, simply that Raye's edged into a somewhat Eagles-ish blend of country, rock, and pop here that wouldn't sound out of place on contemporary country radio but doesn't sound as though it's desperate for airplay either.
