Neue Heimat 2: Electronic Music Made In Germany Review

by Andy Kellman

The range of sounds on the second volume of Ministry of Sound's Neue Heimat series is even greater than the one presented on the opening set, factoring in just about every form of electronic music being made during the early 2000s -- save, maybe, for Cleopatra-style electro-industrial. Highlights include the low-slung skank of Rhythm & Sound's "We Been Troddin'," Borneo & Sporenburg's "Wiedersehen," Notwist's "Pilot," Chicks on Speed's "Euro Trash," and the blitzing glitzy pop of Sascha Funke's "When Will I Be Famous" (a cover of Bros.' '80s hit). In order to make room for as many tracks as possible, radio edits are often favored over original mixes. Another fine, if flawed, sampler of German pop and techno.
