AllMusic Review by

A beautiful album of compositions where the electronic and "natural sounds" are barely distinguishable; significantly, Perkins does not try to simulate the natural sounds but lets their dynamic form and movement influence his electronic sounds (somewhat in the way that Cage, using chance methods, tries to imitate nature not in its appearance but in its manner of working) -- the neighborhood for Perkins is that of the disc itself, where the natural and the artificial co-exist successfully. Contains: "Bird Variations," "The Black and White Cat," "Este's Request," "The Fountain," "Equinox Weather," "Rico in the Birdhouse" for trombone solo in an environment, and "Retreat."
