AllMusic Review by

Big Mike sort of disappeared for a while. He rose to prominence as a member of the Geto Boys, which has always (and remains) his main claim to fame. He did put out a few solo albums in the mid- to late '90s -- Somethin' Serious (1994), Still Serious (1997), Hard to Hit (1999) -- but none was all that remarkable and he wasn't too well remembered once the decade turned. So when he returned in 2005 with Nawlins Phats, it admittedly came as a surprise. It's a welcome surprise, truth be told, because it's a fine effort from Big Mike, one that might well put him back on the map. It's a mature effort, and if it doesn't boast any noteworthy guests or producers, it does feature a lot of relatively unknown talent. A respectable -- if unexpected -- return, this one.
