AllMusic Review by

White Hassle's debut finds Marcellus Hall and Dave Varenka exploring a rootsy alternative to their day jobs in Railroad Jerk; performed almost exclusively on simply guitar and pots-'n'-pans percussion, National Chain delivers bare-bones songs close in spirit to traditional old-time country music, and features straightforward performances of the duo's original material as well as covers of Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," George Jones' "Out of Control" and the Everly Brothers' "Oh, What a Feeling."
