Many budget-line collections have no rhyme or reason behind their existence other than as sheer product to fill the shelves, which is what makes Sony Music Special Products' Nashville West so welcome. Instead of randomly pulling songs from throughout their varied career, the disc collects ten highlights from the Byrds' country-rock years. It is true that Sweetheart of the Rodeo is a classic unto itself, but this does a fine job of offering a sampler of that album and its sequels. It's certainly not definitive, but any collection that has "Hickory Wind," "Nashville West," "Drug Store Truck Drivin' Man," "Satisfied Mind," "Yesterday's Train" and "Truck Stop Girl" is certainly worth its budget price.
