AllMusic Review by

It is a given that Lester Lanin can not, under any circumstances, escape his past as society dance-band orchestra leader. No amount of psychedelic jacket art, funky electric bass, conga, Vinnie Bell's "water sound" guitar, or covers of Sly & the Family Stone will quite do it. But then there is Mort Goode's liner-note challenge: "Wanna narrow the generation gap? Now?." Sure. Lanin tries hard, way too hard, and even Charles Fox of "Barbarella" fame can't do much with him. Listen instead for the echoes of a thousand Hamptons teenagers clamoring upstairs with an incredulous "awe, Mom!." The generation gap may or may not have shrunk when this one came out, but the gulf between hip and square definitely widened.
