On the fifth and final record in the Main Street series by the Basic Channel duo, the lively house of the first record, I'm Your Brother, has completely vanished. Where that record was uplifting and joyous, this final release lumbers in a disorientating spell of hazy dub. The bassline and its resulting sense of rhythm creep along, seemingly trying to mesmerize the listener with its locked groove. When Tikiman steps up to the mic on the vocal version, he emanates this very mood sounding tired and sedate. Yet this very feeling alluded to in the music and illustrated by Tikiman is beautiful in its wallow, the polar opposite of the gay enthusiasm of the first record in this series and just as emotive, if not more -- a perfect way to conclude the short series of records.
