AllMusic Review by

Australian rock legends INXS performed one of their last gigs with the original line-up on July 21, 1997, running through a set at the Loreley Festival and taping the proceedings for long-running German live music program, Rockpalast. Lead singer Michael Hutchence would be found dead in a hotel room after committing suicide just five months later, adding a slight chill to hearing the band perform strings of their best-known hits on an all-killer, no-filler set list. Despite the as-of-yet untold future that lay ahead for the band, Mystify: Rockpalast Collection finds them in full control of their performance, brimming over with all the sex, sin, and narcotic swagger that made songs like "New Sensation" and "Need You Tonight" so seductive to begin with. In addition to the 18 songs recorded in 1997, this collection also includes bonus material in the form of songs from the band's 1984 appearance on Rockpalast, long before fame found them.
