George Jones' second tribute to Hank Williams in a matter of years, My Favorites of Hank Williams was originally released on United Artists in the early '60s. None of the songs on My Favorites were featured on George's Hank tribute on Mercury Records, but given Williams' extensive catalog, that isn't surprising. My Favorites does differ from the previous Mercury recordings in terms of production -- the UA release is slightly smoother, yet it is still firmly in the honky tonk tradition. George doesn't put a new spin on any of these songs -- which include "You Win Again," "Your Cheatin' Heart," "I Could Never Be Ashamed of You," "You're Gonna Change (Or I'm Gonna Leave)," "Mansion on the Hill" -- but he delivers them with affection and grit, making the record a thoroughly enjoyable listen.
