AllMusic Review by

In 2013, the U.K.-based Edsel label compiled Patrice Rushen's first three Elektra albums: Patrice (1978), Pizzazz (1979), and Posh (1980). These albums followed the pianist-vocalist's first three albums for Prestige -- the last of which, Shout It Out, pointed toward her full embrace of R&B, including slick funk, disco, and quiet storm. Ten years prior to this release, the Wounded Bird label reissued the albums individually, but this retailed for a price significantly less than the sum of those discs, and it added a handful of bonus tracks from the contemporaneous singles. Each album has several highlights, including "Music of the Earth," "Hang It Up," "Settle for My Love," "Message in the Music," "Haven't You Heard" (a Top Ten R&B single), and "Never Gonna Give You Up."
