Live From the Sun: Best From the West captures the reunited Dokken in Anaheim on November 4, 1999, running through a live set of mostly greatest hits, plus a few of the newer tracks from their second go-round in the mid- to late '90s. It's interesting at times to hear new guitarist Reb Beach putting his own stamp on the material, playing as he does with great musicality; however, it's also difficult to shake the feeling that Live From the Sun is pure product, since many of these songs are better heard on the 1988 live record Beast From the East (which features original guitarist George Lynch and more energetic performances from the rest of the band). The real downfall, though, is that aside from Beach, the rest of Dokken seem to be on autopilot, cranking out their set in a workmanlike fashion without much commitment. There are better Dokken records to spend your money on. [A video and DVD version of the performance was released several months later.]
