Indie label Lagoon is to France what Heartbeat is to the U.S. Together, these great labels have been able to capture an impressive catalog of obscure reggae records, including overlooked offerings from well-known artists, as well as rare releases from forgotten artists. MUSICAL VISION is an impressive collection that combines the talents of U-Roy, the grandfather of dancehall, with the unparalleled rhythm section the Aggrovators and the studio genius of producer Bunny Lee.

This disc hints at what was to become a new era in reggae soon after this album's release. Producer Lee chooses a variety of tried-and-true rhythm tracks but incorporates heavy use of vintage synths, giving many of the tracks a lush and robotic trance flavor. This sound helped establish the heavy reliance on digital instrumentation in reggae music during the '80s and '90s. Bunny mixes a killer dub of Cornell Campbell's "Gorgon," allowing U-Roy to add his touch of magic to "Gorgon Wise." Other heavyweight cuts include "King Tubby's Skank" and "Feel Jah Spirit," the latter of which is a loose interpretation of the Wailers' "Put It On." U-Roy fans and newcomers alike are in for a real treat with MUSICAL VISION.
