Edgardo Cintron, who plays timbales, leads an oversized Afro-Cuban band on this stimulating set. A few standards (such as "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White," "The Carioca," "Manha de Carnival," "Caravan," and the rarely played "She's a Latin From Manhattan") mix in with newer material. The collective personnel is listed, so it is difficult to know how many musicians are playing on a particular selection, but chances are this is a three-percussion, three-horn nonet. In any case, the results are stirring, exciting, and infectious; well worth checking out.
