AllMusic Review by

Collecting a trio of previous albums on Playasound, Music of the South Seas includes an album of Hawaiian guitar, an album of Tahitian female vocalists, and an album of Polynesian song in general. The music is generally of a decent quality. The performers are going to be unknowns, given the lower production values of the original albums, but they're often quite good. At the same time, there's an aspect of exoticism inherent that tends to override the traditional aspects of the music. This is music for a tourist market, hailing from the days of Hollywood's entanglement with the beauty of the South Pacific (the vibes in particular are a rather non-native instrument). The trio of albums should serve well as background music for a lazy day, particularly the Hawaiian installment. Not the best albums available of any of the traditions covered, but not terrible.
