The baganna, the magnificent "harp of David, " here on Music of Ethiopia - Three Chordophone Traditions, plays its essential role as accompaniment to songs of meditation. The krar, known as the devil's instrument, is used to accompany love and topical songs. The masinqo, a spike fiddle of a type common in Africa, as well as the Middle East and the Balkans, is heard in music for weddings and other social gatherings. All are played on this album by exceptional musicians.
